PM Shehbaz vows to turn Pakistan into economic power, citing its nuclear journey as inspiration

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged to transform Pakistan into a strong economic power, saying the country can achieve economic success with the same unity and determination that led to its nuclear capability.

In his remarks, the premier said Pakistan’s historic nuclear journey demonstrated how national resolve and strategic vision could help the country overcome immense international pressure and challenges. He stressed that the same spirit must now be applied to rebuilding and strengthening the national economy.

The prime minister noted that Pakistan’s nuclear programme was developed strictly for defensive purposes and to safeguard national sovereignty, not for aggression. He added that the country now needs to focus on economic self-reliance, industrial growth, exports, and energy reforms to secure long-term prosperity.

Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the government’s broader reform agenda, including reducing dependence on imported fuel, expanding renewable energy projects, and promoting investment and infrastructure development. Analysts say the remarks align with the government’s long-term economic transformation plans aimed at stabilising growth and attracting international confidence.

The statement comes at a time when Pakistan faces economic challenges, including inflation, fiscal pressures, and regional uncertainty, while the government continues negotiations and reforms tied to international financial support programmes.
