Pop superstar Billie Eilish used her acceptance speech at the 2026 MLK Jr. Beloved Community Environmental Justice Awards in Atlanta to sharply criticise U.S. immigration enforcement and civil rights issues, saying Americans are witnessing neighbours being “kidnapped” and peaceful protesters “assaulted and murdered.” While accepting the award for environmental justice, Eilish linked climate action with broader social justice concerns, asserting that civil liberties are under threat and access to food and healthcare is becoming a privilege for the wealthy, not a right.

Her remarks came days after U.S. officials criticised her earlier social media posts on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Eilish—known for blending activism with her art—said she feels a responsibility to use her platform to speak out against injustices, highlighting how environmental protection, migrant rights, and civil freedoms are interconnected.
