In a refreshing display of sportsmanship and unity, the captains of Pakistan and India’s women’s futsal teams publicly rejected politics ahead of their match at the SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship in Thailand. Before kick-off, Pakistan skipper Kaynat Bukhari presented a traditional Ajrak to Indian captain Jugneet Chhehan, symbolising respect and camaraderie on the pitch, while both sides shared warm high-fives.

The gesture comes amid lingering tensions between the two countries in various sports, highlighted previously when some Indian cricket players refused to shake hands with Pakistani counterparts—sparking criticism.
This time, however, the futsal teams took the high road, emphasising that football and futsal should rise above politics and that mutual respect among athletes is paramount. Sports fans have welcomed the positive moment as a sign of how sport can bridge divides and inspire cooperation beyond borders.
