Indian FM S. Jaishankar Meets Pakistan’s Ayaz Sadiq in Dhaka—Signs of Warming Ties

In a notable diplomatic gesture, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar personally greeted Pakistan National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq during a visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh, marking one of the first high-level contacts between Pakistan and India since the May 2025 tensions. The interaction, which included a warm handshake and friendly exchange, took place at the funeral of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Despite lingering strain between the two nuclear neighbours, Jaishankar’s decision to approach and introduce himself to Speaker Sadiq was widely seen by political observers as a positive diplomatic signal. Officials noted that both leaders also engaged with other South Asian counterparts during the event, with discussions touching on regional cooperation and mutual respect.

The meeting has been interpreted as a small but meaningful step toward easing tensions in Pakistan–India relations and highlights the potential for renewed dialogue between the countries after a period of limited official contact.
