🪁 Basant Returns: Government of Punjab Lifts Kite-Flying Ban After 18–25 Years

The Punjab government has officially lifted the decades-old ban on kite flying, announcing that Basant celebrations are allowed again under strict safety regulations.

Under the new Punjab Kite Flying Ordinance 2025, only cotton strings are permitted—metal, chemical-coated, or sharp strings remain banned. Kite sellers and manufacturers must register and link all kites and strings to QR codes for traceability.

Those under 18 are barred from kite flying, and violations carry heavy penalties: first offense, Rs 50,000; second offense, Rs 100,000; use of banned strings can lead to 3–5 years imprisonment and up to a Rs 2 million fine.

Officials say the controlled revival balances cultural heritage with public safety—bringing back a beloved tradition while aiming to avoid past tragedies.
