Washington: US President Donald Trump has said that he has told Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that there should be no war with Pakistan anymore.
Speaking to the media during the Diwali ceremony at the White House, Trump said that he had a detailed conversation with Modi some time ago. The two leaders discussed several matters, including trade relations between the two countries.
President Trump stated that India will no longer buy oil from Russia, adding that he believes most disputes can be resolved through trade rather than conflict.
Earlier, while addressing guests at the Diwali ceremony, Trump once again mentioned his role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. He said that during the last conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, seven warplanes were shot down, and the situation could have escalated into a full-scale war.
“I brought about a ceasefire between Pakistan and India,” Trump said, claiming that he had ended eight wars around the world and prevented several others by focusing on trade diplomacy.
When asked about China, Trump said he would soon hold detailed discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping on several key issues. “We are going to do a good job in the talks with China,” he added.
