PM Shehbaz Sharif Joins Qatar’s Urgent Arab-Islamic Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif set off for Doha today, September 15, 2025, to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, a critical gathering addressing recent Israeli airstrikes on Qatar and escalating tensions in Palestine.

The summit, hosted by Qatar, unites leaders from the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to confront Israel’s attacks, including a September 9 strike in Doha that killed six people, among them Hamas members and a Qatari security official.

Accompanying Sharif are key figures like Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. Just yesterday, Dar attended a preparatory meeting of foreign ministers to draft a resolution condemning Israel’s actions.

Other expected attendees include Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and possibly Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Together, they aim to address the Gaza conflict, forced Palestinian displacements, and disruptions to ceasefire talks, which Qatar has been mediating.

Today’s summit not only responds to the Doha attack but also amplifies calls for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders. As a result, this gathering strengthens Muslim unity and pushes for concrete steps toward justice and stability.

By joining this effort, Sharif reinforces Pakistan’s firm stance against Israeli aggression and its commitment to Palestinian rights.
