Pakistan Wins First Gold and Bronze at 2025 Science Olympiads

Pakistan achieved a groundbreaking milestone at the 2025 International Science Olympiads, securing its first-ever gold medal and a bronze medal in two globally renowned competitions.

Abdul Raffay Paracha from Siddique Public School clinched the gold at the 35th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in the Philippines, held from July 20 to 27, marking a historic first for the nation.

Meanwhile, Daniyal Shahzad Hamid from The Science School, Rawat, Islamabad, earned a bronze at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in France, held from July 17 to 25.

The national team, supported by the STEM Careers Programme—a joint initiative of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS)—also celebrated additional honors.

Ayyan Aslam from Government College University, Lahore, received an IBO Honourable Mention, while Eiman Fatima from Fazaia Inter College, Rawalpindi, won the prestigious Thales Solidarity IPhO Award, which includes a €5,000 grant and a one-year mentorship. Muhammad Bilal from Sundar STEM School, Lahore, also earned an IPhO Honourable Mention.

Mentored by Dr. Asma Imran and Dr. Asma Rehman from the National Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), the IBO team showcased Pakistan’s growing scientific talent.

HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed praised the students, stating, “These achievements highlight Pakistan’s rising scientific prowess and inspire our youth to aim higher.”
