Sarim Burney, a prominent social worker, has filed his sixth bail application in a case related to alleged forged documents and human trafficking. His latest attempt to secure release comes after rejections from the Magistrate, Sessions Judge, and High Court on five previous accounts. He still remains in jail on judicial remand. The case against him was registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Burney was arrested a year ago, but as per his latest application, a formal indictment has yet to be filed against him. The defense argues that the prosecution is deliberately employing delaying tactics to prolong the legal proceedings.
The application also highlights recent developments, noting that the investigating officer has only recently requested the case to be transferred to the trial court. Furthermore, the issue of jurisdiction has remained pending in the trial court since the previous year, exacerberating the delays. On the other hand, Burney’s application asserts that the charges against him are false allegations and not of a serious nature.
The legal team for Sarim Burney is once again requesting his release on bail, citing the prolonged detention without indictment and the alleged dilatory tactics by the prosecution.
