Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has sparked controversy yet again by publicly entertaining the idea of a regime change in Iran, explicitly announcing through a Truth Social post, stating, “It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!”

This was hours after the U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stressed that the U.S. was not intending to change the regime through the attacks carried out by the nation in its “Operation Midnight Hammer, but instead on curbing Iran’s nuclear program by attacking on three nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
These comments by the president followed U.S. military action, involving B-2 bomber strikes, which he claimed “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities, though damage assessments remain inconclusive.

His remarks contradict earlier statements of opposing foreign interventions, heightening the threat of a potential escalation in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, now in its 10th day of active military exchanges. Critics, including French President Emmanuel Macron, warn that regime change could lead to regional chaos.
The statement has also sparked debates within Trump’s administration and the Republican Party, with figures like Senator Marco Rubio suggesting Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons can possibly imperil its regime, while non-interventionists like Tulsi Gabbard and Tucker Carlson stand in opposition to further U.S. involvement.
As tensions escalate, Trump’s actions threaten to complicate diplomacy efforts and isolate allies who fear another war in the Middle East.
