The United Arab Emirates has declared its right to self-defence following reported missile and drone attacks by Iran, warning of serious consequences if such actions continue. The statement comes amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region and growing concerns over violations of international law.

UAE Ambassador to the United Nations, Mohamed Abushahab, said the attacks targeted civilian infrastructure, including an energy facility in Fujairah, where a fire broke out and at least three people were injured. He described the strikes as unlawful and unacceptable, stressing that deliberate targeting of civilian areas cannot be justified under any circumstances.
According to UAE officials, the scale of the assault has been significant. Since the conflict began in late February, the country claims to have intercepted more than 500 ballistic missiles and over 2,000 drones launched toward its territory.
The UAE has called on the United Nations Security Council to take decisive action, warning that continued inaction could undermine its credibility. Officials emphasised that international law must be upheld and violations addressed promptly.
The developments come as regional tensions remain high, with ongoing clashes threatening a fragile ceasefire and raising fears of a broader conflict affecting global security and energy supplies.
