Following the massive box office success of The Housemaid, Lionsgate has officially announced a live stage adaptation of the psychological thriller starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. The move comes after the 2025 film adaptation became a surprise global hit, earning nearly $400 million worldwide and turning the bestselling novel into a major entertainment franchise.

Based on author Freida McFadden’s bestselling thriller, The Housemaid follows Millie, a struggling woman who takes a housekeeping job with a wealthy family, only to uncover disturbing secrets hidden behind their perfect lifestyle. The story’s suspense-filled narrative and emotional depth made it one of the most talked-about thrillers of the year.

The stage production is being developed by Lionsgate alongside theatre producers Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska, while acclaimed playwright Bekah Brunstetter has been selected to adapt the screenplay for live audiences.

Lionsgate also confirmed that The Housemaid’s Secret, the sequel to the hit film, is currently in development and is expected to begin production later this year.
