Mohammad Rizwan Appears Before NCCIA in Online Betting Probe

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan appeared before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore on Friday as part of an investigation involving allegations of online betting, gambling, and the alleged leaking of team information.

Rizwan spent more than three and a half hours at the NCCIA office, where he was questioned by four officials. The cricketer had been summoned under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Neither Rizwan nor NCCIA officials provided details about the questioning when he left the office. Speaking briefly to reporters, Rizwan said the officials’ conduct had been good before leaving the premises.

The investigation reportedly relates to allegations concerning Pakistan’s Test series in England earlier this year.

The NCCIA had previously confiscated Rizwan’s mobile phone in England on August 30, reportedly citing the presence of sensitive information. The agency had indicated that the phone would be returned shortly, but it had not been returned before Rizwan was summoned for questioning.

According to the report, Rizwan was also summoned for face recognition, which is required for forensic examination of the device.

It remains unclear whether the phone has since been returned or whether Rizwan will be summoned again.
