A fresh spell of monsoon rains swept across parts of Punjab and Islamabad on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from the heat while prompting weather authorities to issue warnings over the risk of urban flooding and landslides.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), widespread rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected to continue over the coming days in several regions, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Murree, and other parts of Punjab. Heavy downpours are also forecast for parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PMD has warned that intense rainfall could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas, particularly in major cities, while hilly regions remain vulnerable to landslides and flash floods. Authorities have advised local administrations to remain on high alert and urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also called on provincial authorities to remain prepared for weather-related emergencies, emphasising the importance of timely response measures to protect lives and infrastructure.

Pakistan experiences its heaviest rainfall during the annual monsoon season, which often brings both relief from extreme summer temperatures and heightened risks of flooding and weather-related disruptions. Officials have urged the public to monitor weather updates and follow official safety advisories as the latest monsoon system moves across the country.
