At least one private security guard was killed, two people were wounded, and 12 workers were abducted after gunmen attacked a construction company’s base in the Duki district of Balochistan on Saturday, police said.

According to Duki Superintendent of Police Mansoor Ahmed Buzdar, the attackers raided the site in the Palari area of Nana Sahib Ziarat and exchanged fire with private security guards.

Security guard Muhtajur-Rehman, who was from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, was fatally wounded. Another guard and a local bystander were injured and taken to a nearby medical facility.

Police said the attackers checked workers’ identity cards before taking 12 labourers away. Initial information indicated that 10 of those abducted were from Punjab, while two were Pashtuns.

The assailants also reportedly set fire to heavy construction machinery before escaping into the surrounding hills.

Police and Frontier Corps personnel have cordoned off the area and launched a joint search operation to locate the abducted workers and arrest those responsible.
