ISLAMABAD: Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have departed for Iran as part of Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Munir’s visit will focus on supporting efforts for a “peaceful, lasting, and comprehensive resolution” to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The high-level delegation is expected to hold discussions with senior Iranian officials on regional security and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the visit was also aimed at continuing Pakistan’s good offices efforts to promote peace and security in the region.

After arriving in Tehran on Monday, Munir and Naqvi met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. The meeting comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States and growing international concern over the wider Middle East conflict.

Pakistan has sought to maintain communication channels between Tehran and Washington and has previously played a role in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions. Munir’s latest trip is his fourth visit to Iran since the conflict began in February, highlighting Islamabad’s continued engagement with the Iranian leadership.

The visit comes at a particularly sensitive time, with Washington preparing further economic pressure on Iran and Tehran warning of possible retaliation. Pakistan’s initiative is therefore being closely watched as Islamabad seeks to encourage dialogue and prevent further escalation.
