The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged as the clear winner in the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) general elections, securing nine of the 13 constituencies in Mirpur Division, according to unofficial results released by the AJK Election Commission.

Polling in Mirpur Division was held on Monday as part of the first phase of the three-stage election process. Preliminary results showed the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) winning the remaining four seats, while no other party managed to secure a constituency in the division.

The voting process, however, was marred by reports of clashes, violence, and allegations of electoral irregularities. Both the PML-N and PPP accused each other of rigging and influencing the polling process in several constituencies. Election authorities are expected to review complaints submitted by candidates and political parties before issuing final certified results.

The AJK elections are being conducted in three phases due to security arrangements. Following the completion of voting in Mirpur Division, polling in Muzaffarabad Division and the refugee constituencies across Pakistan will take place in the second phase, while Poonch Division will vote in the final phase.

Political observers view the Mirpur Division results as an early indicator of the electoral landscape, though they caution that the remaining phases will ultimately determine which party secures a majority in the AJK Legislative Assembly and forms the next government.
