Karachi’s Disco Bakery Flyover Faces Delay Over K-IV Pipeline Concerns

The proposed Disco Bakery Flyover in Karachi has encountered major hurdles even before construction begins, as officials raise concerns over conflicts with the city’s upcoming K-IV water supply project and other ongoing infrastructure works. The development has sparked questions about whether the flyover should proceed as planned.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab had announced that construction on the flyover would commence on August 14, with an ambitious completion timeline of 90 days. However, officials involved in the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP) have warned that the proposed route overlaps with the planned alignment of a 96-inch K-IV (R-2) water pipeline.

According to project officials, the pipeline will extend from Abul Hassan Isphahani Road through the Disco Bakery area to Gulshan Chowrangi. The installation requires excavation up to six to eight feet deep, which could affect the same corridor where the flyover is scheduled to be built. Experts fear that constructing the flyover before laying the pipeline may lead to costly disruptions, structural challenges, and increased inconvenience for commuters.

Authorities from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Water Corporation are expected to hold discussions to resolve the issue before construction begins. The outcome of these meetings will determine whether the project proceeds on schedule or undergoes revisions to accommodate Karachi’s long-term water infrastructure plans.
