A Muslim woman doctor in the Indian state of Bihar has reportedly been left mentally distressed after an alleged harassment incident involving Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at a public event. The woman’s brother says she has decided not to join her government job due to the emotional trauma she is experiencing following the episode.

According to reports, the CM pulled the doctor’s veil (niqab) during an official function, igniting outrage among human rights groups and civil society. Leaders from the Samajwadi Party—including Samiya Rana—have filed a formal complaint against Kumar in Lucknow, calling the act unacceptable.

Amnesty International India condemned the incident, calling it an attack on the doctor’s dignity, identity, and personal freedom, and warning that such actions foster fear and insecurity in communities.
