Bollywood Film ‘Dhurandhar’ Criticised for Misrepresenting Karachi and Baloch Culture

Bollywood’s latest release, “Dhurandhar,” is receiving intense criticism from Pakistani audiences for its misleading portrayal of Karachi and the Baloch community. Although Akshaye Khanna is being applauded for his strong performance as a character inspired by Lyari gangster Rehman Dakait, viewers argue that the film pushes an anti-Pakistan narrative and misrepresents local culture.

The movie features Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy, with several scenes showing a fictional version of Karachi that looks nothing like the real city. Many users also object to the film dressing Baloch characters in “Arab-style” clothing, calling it inaccurate and disrespectful.

Social media users and journalists are urging Bollywood to adopt more authentic, responsible storytelling instead of using Pakistani cities and communities as tools for cinematic propaganda.
