KARACHI: In a deeply disturbing incident, the body of a newborn girl was discovered on the balcony of a house in Christian Town, Korangi, early Monday morning. Police suspect that the infant was thrown from a high-rise building nearby.
According to residents, the baby was found wrapped inside a shopping bag around 6:45 a.m. Christopher Javed, a resident of the house where the body was found, said his mother spotted the bag on the balcony and thought it contained trash. When they opened it, they found a baby girl who was still breathing faintly.
“It seemed like she had been born just a short while ago,” Javed told reporters. “It looks like someone tried to throw her into the garbage dump behind our house, but she fell onto our balcony instead. Whoever did this should be punished severely.”
Police from Zaman Town station arrived shortly after being alerted and shifted the baby’s body to Jinnah Hospital through an Edhi ambulance for legal formalities.
Station House Officer Zaman Town, Nafisur Rehman, confirmed that the police found the baby dead upon arrival. “We suspect that the newborn was thrown from a height, but whether this is accurate or not will be determined after investigation,” he said.
The SHO added that two suspects have been taken into custody for questioning, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. “Once the report is received, a formal case will be registered, and a full investigation will be launched,” he said.
