Karachi Braces for Scorching Heat and Sudden Thunderstorms on September 30

Karachi residents wake up to another day of relentless heat and sticky humidity, but relief might arrive with a dramatic twist. Today, September 30, 2025, the city battles soaring temperatures that could climb as high as 37-39°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). However, the “feels-like” heat—amplified by oppressive moisture—pushes even higher, potentially reaching 40-44°C in various neighborhoods. Moreover, sea breezes remain intermittent, offering little respite from the dusty skies overhead.

Yet, change brews on the horizon. Under the influence of a lingering post-monsoon depression, Karachi faces the threat of scattered showers, thunder, and gusty winds starting from late afternoon. Specifically, the PMD highlights the prime window for thunderstorms between 3 PM and 9 PM, when rain could lash different parts of the city until late evening. For instance, light to moderate downpours might cool the air briefly, but they also carry risks of sudden gusts and urban flash flooding in low-lying areas. Therefore, authorities urge caution for outdoor activities, as the mix of heat and storms demands quick adaptations.

This weather pattern stems from the tail end of Pakistan’s intense 2025 monsoon season, which has already delivered record rains and floods across Sindh and beyond. Although the main monsoon currents have weakened, this post-monsoon system—shifted westward from the Bay of Bengal—injects enough moisture to spark isolated events. As a result, while most of Sindh stays hot and humid, Karachi’s forecast underscores the city’s vulnerability to such swings.

Looking ahead, the PMD notes no major rainfall threats loom immediately, but vigilance remains key.
