The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab actively warns residents about the impending 11th spell of monsoon rains, scheduled from September 16 to 19, 2025.
This new wave brings moderate to heavy showers in the upper catchment areas of major rivers like the Ravi, Chenab, and Sutlej.
Moreover, authorities fear flash floods in local streams, nullahs, canals, and low-lying regions, exacerbating the ongoing crisis that has already displaced millions.
This alert comes at a critical time, as Punjab grapples with devastating floods from earlier monsoon phases since June 26, 2025.
Over 4,700 villages across the province have submerged, affecting more than 4.5 million people, with at least 104 lives lost to rain and flood-related incidents.
Additionally, rescue operations have evacuated over 2.5 million individuals, involving more than 16,000 personnel, 770 vehicles, and 40 boats, supported by drones and thermal imaging.
Consequently, the provincial government directs all departments and local administrations to maintain high readiness for any emergencies.
Furthermore, the broader monsoon season has intensified challenges nationwide, with rising water levels in key dams like Tarbela (98% full) and Mangla (68% full), complicating water management.
However, PDMA anticipates a slight decrease in flood intensity over the next two days as waters move downstream, yet the new rains could reverse this trend.
In addition, neighboring regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa face similar high alerts for rains from September 15 to 19, highlighting the widespread impact.
Thus, thousands remain in temporary shelters, and relief supplies including blankets, tents, and water filters continue to distribute.
