Pakistanis may face higher fuel costs starting August 16, 2025, as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) prepares to submit a pricing summary to the federal government on August 15.
Industry calculations suggest a Rs 1.32 per liter increase in petrol prices, pushing the rate from Rs 264.61 to Rs 265.93.
Meanwhile, high-speed diesel could see a significant drop of Rs 11.75 per liter, lowering its price from Rs 285.83 to Rs 274.08.
Kerosene oil and light diesel oil are also expected to decrease by Rs6.25 and Rs7.11 per liter, respectively, offering some relief to consumers.
The proposed adjustments stem from fluctuating global oil prices and local market dynamics. Despite declines in international crude oil rates, refining costs and market adjustments drive the slight petrol price hike.
OGRA’s summary, based on the petroleum industry’s data, awaits approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. If approved, the new rates will take effect at midnight between August 15 and 16, impacting households and businesses across Pakistan.
