Karachi’s East District Reports First Dengue Fatality of 2025

The Sindh Health Department confirmed the province’s first dengue-related death of the year today. A 48-year-old woman from Karachi’s East District succumbed to complications from dengue fever while receiving treatment at a private hospital.

The patient, admitted on July 23, 2025, was battling not only dengue but also underlying conditions, including diabetes and a urinary tract infection (UTI), which worsened her prognosis.

According to health officials, the woman tested positive for dengue on the day of her admission. Her condition deteriorated rapidly due to the combined impact of dengue and her pre-existing health issues.

The Sindh Health Department reports that over 300 dengue cases have emerged across the province in 2025, with Karachi, particularly its East District, bearing the brunt of the outbreak.

The city’s dense population, poor sanitation, and stagnant water accumulation create ideal conditions for mosquito proliferation.

Health experts urge residents to eliminate standing water, use mosquito repellents, and seek immediate medical attention for symptoms like high fever, severe headaches, joint pain, or nausea.
