Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senate Polls: PTI Wins 6, Opposition 5 Seats

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly conducted Senate elections for 11 vacant seats, resulting in a historic agreement between the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and opposition parties, with the coalition securing all seats. According to unofficial and provisional results, the government, led by PTI, clinched six seats, while the opposition secured five, reflecting a rare consensus in Pakistan’s polarized political landscape.

The elections, held in the KP Assembly, filled seven general seats, two women’s seats, and two technocrat seats. PTI dominated the general seats, winning four with candidates Murad Saeed (26 votes), Faisal Javed (22 votes), Noor-ul-Haq Qadri (21 votes), and Mirza Afridi (21 votes).

The opposition secured three general seats, with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate Maulana Atta-ul-Haq Darvesh, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Talha Mehmood, and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Niaz Ahmed emerging victorious.

In the women’s category, PTI’s Rubina Naz secured one seat with an impressive 89 votes, while PPP’s Rubina Khalid won the other, marking a significant representation for both parties. For the technocrat seats, PTI’s Azam Swati triumphed with 89 votes, and JUI-F’s Dilawar Khan won with 54 votes, highlighting the competitive yet cooperative nature of the polls.
