The Sindh government has intensified preparations for a memorable Independence Day celebration on August 14, 2025, under the theme of “Maurqa-e-Haq” or “Battle of Truth” and “Operation Bunyanun Marsoos.”
A high-level meeting, chaired by Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, was held in Karachi to finalize plans for province-wide events aimed at fostering national unity and patriotism.
The meeting, attended by Provincial Ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Muhammad Bux Mehar, Syed Zulfiqar Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and secretaries from various departments, emphasized making the celebrations unique and impactful. Virtual participation from mayors of Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad ensured province-wide coordination.
Sharjeel Memon announced that festivities will commence on August 1 and continue through August 15, with some events extending throughout the month. “We aim to make these celebrations a reflection of our national pride and the sacrifices under ‘Bunyanun Marsoos,’” Memon stated.
A central, grand event would be held at Quaid-e-Azam’s Mazar in Karachi, alongside district-level flagship events across Sindh. The celebrations will feature branding with national flags, lights, and patriotic songs at shopping malls, public transport, and key locations. A fisheries rally, family festivals, and a tree-plantation campaign—described as an “ongoing movement”—will enhance the festive spirit. Memon proposed issuing an advisory for malls and shopping centers to adopt Independence Day branding, while national flags will adorn public vehicles and prominent sites. A marathon from Nishan-e-Pakistan to Do Darya, a cycle race from Frere Hall to Mazar-e-Quaid, and a donkey cart race from Native Jetty Bridge to Frere Hall are scheduled for August 10 and 14.
Minister for Energy and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah stressed the need for impactful celebrations to highlight the achievements of “Operation Bunyanun Marsoos,” a counterterrorism initiative, as a symbol of Pakistan’s resilience. “These events must inspire national unity and educate the youth about our history and sacrifices,” Shah said, advocating for cultural exhibitions, seminars, torchbearer rallies, and programs to engage the public. He emphasized showcasing the operation’s successes to reinforce Pakistan’s commitment to security and progress.
Provincial Minister for Labour and Local Government Saeed Ghani urged cautious planning due to ongoing monsoon rains and the Chehlum of Imam Hussain, suggesting blood donation camps, uniform dress codes for schools, and disseminating messages from national heroes. Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs, and Agriculture Muhammad Bux Mehar announced two-day sports events across Sindh’s 30 districts, covering 97 locations. These will include cricket, hockey, badminton, volleyball, taekwondo, and traditional games like kodi kodi, malakhra, kabaddi, wanjh wati, and gilli danda. Special events for differently-abled children were also proposed to ensure inclusivity.
Mehar detailed additional plans, including a marathon in Karachi on August 10 and sports competitions on August 14, with a focus on cultural games to preserve Sindh’s heritage. Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Zulfiqar Shah proposed branding trucks and buses and launching a branded “Azadi Train” from Karachi to Thar. He also recommended delegating tree plantation responsibilities to union councils, tehsils, and district administrations. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab pledged full cooperation, offering city parks and public spaces for events and urging citizens to display national flags on homes and vehicles.
With monsoon challenges and religious observances in mind, the government is prioritizing meticulous planning to ensure safe and impactful celebrations across the province.
