A thousands-year-old small settlement, resembling the ancient Indus Valley city of Mohenjo-Daro, has been unearthed at Allah Dino Jo Goth near Memon Goth, along the Malir River. This marks a significant archaeological discovery since the unearthing of a pot of copper coins from a stupa at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mohenjo-Daro in Sindh on November 18, 2023.
The excavation, led by archaeologist Rafiq Baloch in collaboration with the Archaeology Department and American experts, uncovered remains of residential structures, women’s jewelry, and other artifacts, indicating a sophisticated ancient community.
Evidence of domesticated animals, shedding light on the lifestyle of its inhabitants, was also found. The Archaeology Department has formally requested the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Malir to take measures to preserve this historical site. The DC has since visited the location to assess its significance and ensure its protection.
This discovery highlights the rich historical heritage of the region and underscores the need for continued efforts to safeguard Pakistan’s archaeological treasures.
