Iran-Israel Conflict Day 7: Escalation Intensifies

June 19 marks the seventh day of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel and saw Israel’s intensified military campaign against Iran.

Israeli Attacks

155 miles southwest of Tehran, the Arak heavy water reactor was targeted, triggering evacuation alerts for people in Arak and neighboring Khondab. The Tehrani Moghaddam Missile Base and Amand Missile Base near Tabriz in Isfahan were affected during the Israeli attacks, with Israel claiming that it had destroyed half of Iran’s ballistic missile launchers. Israeli military reports indicate of another missile strike, aimed at Iran’s security headquarters.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported damage to Natanz’s underground facilities but stated that Fordow and Isfahan nuclear sites sustained no significant impact.

Iran’s Response

Iran responded with missile attacks against Israeli targets, targetting Soroka Medical Center in southern Israel, causing significant structural damage and minor injuries. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired long-range Sejjil missiles at Israeli airbases, and explosions were reported in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. An Israeli drone was intercepted by Iranian air defenses in Isfahan, and the crashing of an Israeli fighter jet was reported by state media. The IRGC claimed hits on Israeli military intelligence and Mossad operations centers.

Casualties

Casualties kept mounting on both sides.

224 deaths were reported in Iran, consisting of 54 women and children, and over 1200 injuries since Israel’s initial attack on June 13, 2025.

On the other side, Israel confirmed 24 fatalities and nearly 600 injuries, with areas like Bat Yam and Haifa, which are residential areas, affected.

Large-scale evacuations in Tehran caused traffic jams and closed businesses, while Israel eased on some of its public safety regulations, allowing small crowds.

Efforts for Diplomacy

In the midst of implications of a broader regional war, diplomatic efforts saw movement. The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, rejected U.S. demands for surrender, warning of severe repercussions if the U.S. intervenes. Tensions further escalated after Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz declared eliminating Khamenei a war goal.

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, is scheduled to meet with European leaders in Geneva on June 20, marking the first talks since the conflict began. Russian President Vladimir Putin offered mediation, while G7 leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, called for de-escalation.

The conflict remains intense, with both sides targeting critical infrastructure and civilian areas.
