Junaid Akbar Retains PTI’s KP Presidency as Noorul Haq Qadri Takes Charge in His Absence

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has confirmed that Junaid Akbar will remain the party’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) president, while Senator Noorul Haq Qadri will preside over provincial party meetings in his absence.

In a notification issued on Saturday, October 24, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated that the provincial organisation would continue operating under Akbar’s leadership, with no changes to the existing provincial cabinet or organisational structure until further orders.

Akbar’s whereabouts remain unknown following reports that he was taken into preventive custody alongside other PTI leaders after the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in KP on October 11.

Under the new arrangement, Qadri, the party’s provincial senior vice-president, will chair meetings in accordance with PTI’s constitution. Provincial General Secretary Ali Asghar Khan will oversee organisational matters and chair meetings when Qadri is unavailable.

The notification comes amid public disagreements between former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja over the party’s provincial leadership and internal decision-making.

The move formalises PTI’s leadership arrangements while Akbar remains absent.
