Bollywood mourns the death of iconic actor Asrani

Mumbai:Veteran Bollywood actor **Shri Govardhan Asrani**, popularly known as *Asrani*, passed away in Mumbai at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness, Indian media reported on Thursday evening.

The actor’s nephew confirmed his death, saying that Asrani had been unwell for some time.

With a glorious career spanning over five decades, Asrani became one of the most beloved faces of Hindi cinema, appearing in more than **350 films** and earning acclaim for his impeccable comic timing and memorable supporting roles.

The **1970s** marked the golden era of his career, where he delivered some of his most iconic performances in films like *Mere Apne*, *Koshish*, *Bawarchi*, *Preeche*, *Abhimaan*, *Chhupke Chhupke*, *Chhoti Si Baat*, *Raffoo Chakkar* and *Sholay*.

His portrayal of the eccentric jail warden in *Sholay* remains etched in Bollywood history as one of his most memorable roles.

In later years, Asrani continued to charm audiences with performances in popular films such as *Dhamaal*, *Bhool Bhulaiyaa*, and *Bunty Aur Babli 2*.

Following news of his death, tributes have poured in from across the Indian film fraternity, with fans and fellow actors mourning the loss of a true legend who shaped the face of Indian comedy.
