Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar has said that retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid, after joining Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a political adviser, was involved in conspiracies that destabilised the country. Tarar described the recent 14-year rigorous imprisonment sentence against Hamid as a “historic decision” and a victory for accountability.

Speaking to the media, he said that the 15-month field general court-martial produced clear evidence and witness statements proving Hamid’s misuse of authority, his alleged involvement in political activity, and his support for events such as the May 9 unrest.
Tarar added that Hamid’s actions weakened the state’s writ and sparked disorder, and that further investigations into political interference are ongoing. He called the verdict a reinforcement of the rule of law and insisted justice must be upheld without bias.
