The government has scheduled the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for mid-December, signalling a major shift in the national carrier’s future. Pre-qualified bidders have been invited, and a formal bidding process is expected between 12 and 15 December 2025.

To mark this milestone, the Prime Minister will host all pre-qualified bidders today at the Prime Minister’s House—an event officials say underscores the state’s strong commitment to finalising the deal.
According to government insiders, the planned privatisation aims to revive PIA’s financial health, reduce fiscal burden on the state, and attract strategic investment to modernise operations. Observers note that the airline’s future will depend heavily on the terms agreed upon with the new owners and on reforms to prevent past inefficiencies from recurring.
