SSGC Reverses Gas Shutdown Plan for Karachi’s District West

Karachi residents can breathe a sigh of relief this Independence Day. The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) announced on August 13, 2025, that it has canceled a planned 14-hour gas suspension in District West, ensuring uninterrupted supply on August 14.

Initially, SSGC scheduled the shutdown from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to relocate a six-inch diameter gas pipeline at the request of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).

The affected areas included residential neighborhoods like Haroonabad SITE Area, Sher Shah, Jehanabad, Mianwali Colony, Lashari Mohalla, Metroville, Bawani Chali, Pathan Colony, Old Golimar, Rexer Colony, Hasan Oliya, and Muslimabad, as well as industrial zones such as SITE Industrial Area, Gulbai, Mauripur, Tikri Village, and Muslim Colony.

The relocation aimed to support KWSB’s pipeline restoration program, but the water board postponed the project, prompting SSGC to cancel the gas suspension.

An SSGC spokesperson emphasized the company’s commitment to consumer convenience, stating, “The suspension planned for August 14 is now canceled to ensure uninterrupted gas supply during the Independence Day holiday.”

The decision also deferred a related gas load management plan scheduled for the night of August 13, guaranteeing supply until midnight between August 14 and 15.
