The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Jamshed Dasti on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, for submitting fake academic credentials, declaring his NA-175 (Muzaffargarh) seat vacant.
The decision, announced by a three-member ECP bench led by ECP Member (Sindh) Nisar Durrani, followed a reference from National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and two petitions filed by Ameer Akbar, Zulfiqar Dogar, and Sardar Faizul Hassan, challenging the authenticity of Dasti’s educational documents.
The ECP’s verdict revealed that Dasti, who claimed an FA (Intermediate) qualification on his nomination papers for the 2024 general elections, had not completed his matriculation.
The Karachi Education Board’s verification, initiated in May 2025, confirmed that Dasti’s submitted matriculation certificate was fraudulent, and claims of BA and FA degrees from Bahawalpur University were also deemed fake.
The commission ruled that Dasti’s false declarations constituted corrupt practices under Sections 167 and 173 of the Elections Act, 2017, punishable under Section 174. Legal proceedings have been ordered under Section 190(2) of the Act.
