Severe Water Shortage In Karachi’s Central District Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha

Millions of residents in Karachi’s Central District are facing a severe water shortage during the Eid-ul-Adha holidays, with the Water Corporation not supplying water as it claims. The situation is so critical that the district’s only public hydrant was closed for more than half of Friday, and residents were denied access to water from even tankers.

Those most affected are the North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, New Karachi, Buffer Zone, Liaquatabad, Azizabad, and FB Area. Residents express deep frustration with both the Water Corporation’s management and their local elected representatives.

Sources indicate that Water Corporation officials are siphoning the Central District’s water allocation to other districts, purportedly with clearance from top officials. This supposed diversion has triggered widespread public fury, with residents strongly condemning their local municipal government and Members of the Assembly.

The people point to the silence of political parties and representatives on this issue of concern, holding them responsible for being indifferent. Several residents assert that nobody has met with the Water Corporation management or made any public statements on the crisis, leaving millions water-strapped during the festive season.

Distraught citizens are calling upon the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, and other concerned authorities to take serious notice of the severe water shortage in Karachi’s Central District during Eid. They want the concerned officials to be held accountable.

On the other hand, Water Corporation authorities argue that water supply throughout the city is as usual, claiming that all areas, including the Central District, are being supplied with water.
