The Sindh government is actively engaged in finalizing budget proposals for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26, with a significant emphasis on bolstering the capabilities of the Karachi Police to address the ongoing challenges of street crime and frequent public demonstrations.
Faced with the persistent issues of robberies and daily protests in the metropolis, the Karachi Police have submitted a comprehensive set of budgetary demands aimed at enhancing their operational effectiveness.
A key proposal from the police department includes the procurement of specialized anti-riot vehicles, such as water cannons, surveillance vans, and armored crowd control vehicles. These resources are deemed essential for effectively managing and dispersing public unrest.
Recognizing the need for improved infrastructure, the Karachi Police have also proposed schemes for the construction of high-quality police stations across the city in the next fiscal budget. Furthermore, a dedicated budget allocation has been proposed for the establishment and strengthening of a specialized Anti-Riot Force within the Karachi Police.
To tackle the prevalent issue of robberies and enhance patrolling capabilities in the city, the police department has put forward specific operational schemes for consideration in the upcoming budget.
A significant component of the Karachi Police’s budget proposals for the next fiscal year is a request for 5,000 new motorcycles for enhanced mobility and patrolling efficiency. It has been specified that the Shaheen Force, a specialized unit, should be equipped with 125cc motorcycles. Currently, the Sindh government’s Planning and Finance Departments are in the process of reviewing and finalizing the budget proposals received from various government departments, including the Karachi Police. These departments are meticulously scrutinizing both developmental and non-developmental expenditures to formulate a comprehensive and effective budget for the fiscal year 2025-26.
