On July 20, 2025, Minister of State for Religious Affairs Khel Das Kohistani emphasized the critical need for political stability in Pakistan, asserting that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lacks the public and internal support necessary to stage effective protests. In an exclusive interview with PTV News Channel, Kohistani highlighted the diminishing influence of PTI and urged the party to prioritize dialogue over disruptive actions to address political differences.
Kohistani pointed out that PTI has struggled to garner substantial public backing for its agenda, stating, “The party’s influence has diminished significantly, with little to no public enthusiasm for its actions.” He attributed this to a growing disconnect between PTI’s leadership and the populace, which he argued has weakened the party’s ability to mobilize effectively. Additionally, the minister noted internal challenges within PTI, with many former members distancing themselves, further fragmenting the party’s ranks. “This fragmentation within the ranks further weakened PTI’s position, making it difficult for them to mobilize any meaningful opposition,” he remarked.
Advocating for constructive engagement, Kohistani advised PTI to opt for dialogue to resolve political disputes, emphasizing that such discussions are essential for advancing Pakistan’s interests. “Constructive discussions are the key to resolving political differences and advancing the nation’s interests,” he said, underscoring the importance of cooperation among political parties to maintain stability.
The minister highlighted the unity among major political parties, including the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP), and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), in their commitment to constitutional and democratic values. He stated that these parties are “on the same page regarding the country’s future” and are prepared to take necessary steps within the constitutional framework to ensure political stability. This collective resolve, according to Kohistani, reflects a shared vision for a stable and prosperous Pakistan.
Despite differing political ideologies, Kohistani stressed that these parties are focused on addressing national challenges through legal and democratic means. He emphasized that cooperation is vital for protecting the democratic process and fostering progress. “All political forces must prioritize national interests and work together to safeguard the country’s democratic system,” he concluded, reinforcing the need for unity to strengthen Pakistan’s political landscape.
