On July 20, 2025, Pakistan’s security forces, in collaboration with the Police, Levies, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and district administration, conducted a successful joint operation in Malakand district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeting militants associated with the group referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by Pakistani authorities to describe the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The operation, which spanned four days from July 16 to July 20, resulted in the elimination of nine terrorists and the apprehension of eight others, marking a significant blow to militant activities in the region.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched based on intelligence reports indicating the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij militants in Malakand Division. Security forces surrounded the militants’ location, engaging in multiple intense fire exchanges. The operation also led to the destruction of two militant hideouts and the recovery of a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for their professionalism and bravery, describing the operation as “a great example of coordination between different agencies.” He reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, stating, “The entire nation stands with security forces in the war against terrorism.” President Asif Ali Zardari also praised the forces, emphasizing that operations against Fitna al-Khawarij would continue until terrorism is completely eliminated from Pakistan.
