Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, famously known as King Khan, has suffered a back injury while filming a high-intensity action sequence for his upcoming action-thriller King at Mumbai’s Golden Tobacco Studio. The incident, which occurred on July 18, 2025, has prompted a temporary halt in the film’s production, with the actor traveling to the United States for advanced medical treatment. Doctors have advised a month-long rest, pushing the filming schedule to September or October 2025.
The injury is muscular in nature, described as a strain likely exacerbated by years of performing demanding stunts. While not deemed serious, the injury required immediate attention, leading Shah Rukh, accompanied by his team, to seek specialized care in the US. The actor, aged 59, is expected to recover fully with rest and treatment, with plans to resume filming once cleared by medical professionals.
King, directed by Siddharth Anand—known for blockbusters like Pathaan and War—is one of the most anticipated films of 2026, marking Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen after his 2023 hits Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. The film holds special significance as it features Shah Rukh’s daughter, Suhana Khan, in her theatrical debut, playing his protégé. The star-studded ensemble includes Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Saurabh Shukla, Raghav Juyal, and Abhay Verma.
The injury has disrupted a critical phase of King’s production, with shooting schedules at Film City, Golden Tobacco Studio, and YRF Studios canceled for July and August. Despite the setback, industry insiders remain optimistic, with the film tentatively slated for a Gandhi Jayanti release in October 2026, though this timeline may shift depending on Shah Rukh’s recovery. As Shah Rukh recuperates, reportedly in the UK with his family after initial treatment in the US, the industry and fans alike await his return to the set with full force.
