Pakistan’s Under-16 volleyball team clinched the 2nd Asian Men’s U-16 Volleyball Championship title on July 19, 2025, defeating defending champions Iran in a thrilling 3-2 final in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand.
The victory marks Pakistan’s first-ever Asian U-16 title, capping an undefeated run that showcased the team’s skill, resilience, and growing prowess on the continental stage. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari lauded the young athletes, calling their achievement a proud moment for the nation.
The final against Iran was a nail-biting affair. Pakistan trailed 0-2 after losing the first two sets (22-25, 21-25), but staged a remarkable comeback, winning the next three sets (30-28, 25-21, 15-10). Key players Muhammad Junaid, Faizanullah, Mohammad Talha Mehar, and Irfan delivered standout performances, with Junaid scoring 19 points across the tournament, including 11 from attacks in the semifinal. Their teamwork and defensive prowess, particularly in blocking (13 points vs. Iran’s 4), were pivotal in securing the victory.
This win not only secured the championship but also earned Pakistan a spot in the FIVB U-17 World Championship in 2026. Head coach Kafait Ullah praised the team’s resilience, stating, “This is a statement of Pakistan’s youth strength. Beating India and Iran shows our potential.”
