Karachi Police Directed to Lead by Example in Traffic Law Enforcement

Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Karachi Police, Javed Alam Odho, issued directives on Wednesday to all Zonal Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), DIG CIA, and DIG Traffic to ensure strict adherence to traffic regulations by police personnel.

The order mandates that District SSPs, SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs enforce compliance among their staff, with no tolerance for violations such as using fake or unauthorized number plates, riding without helmets, or other breaches of traffic laws.

AIG Odho emphasized that any police personnel found violating traffic regulations will face severe departmental action. He instructed all officers to closely monitor their subordinates and ensure immediate and effective implementation of these directives. “Every member of the police force is bound by the law, and public trust in the rule of law can only be upheld when its protectors lead by example,” Odho stated.

The directive comes amid growing public concern over traffic violations in Karachi, where 171 road accident deaths were reported by March 2025, many involving reckless driving. The move aims to restore public confidence in the police force and reinforce law enforcement’s commitment to road safety, particularly in a city grappling with frequent accidents and inadequate traffic management.
