The mystery of actress Humaira Asghar’s death in her Defence, Karachi apartment deepens as her family finally claimed her body late Thursday night. Her brother, Naveed Asghar, and cousin, Ali, retrieved the body from Chhipa Mortuary at 10:15 PM after securing a release letter from Gizri Police Station. The body, placed in a coffin, was handed over by Chhipa Welfare.

Initially, with the absence of immediate relatives, concerns arose regarding the body, prompting the Sindh government to consider arranging the funeral. Provincial Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, in coordination with Additional IG Karachi, appointed the Director General of Culture as the focal person, declaring the Culture Department as Humaira’s “heir” if her family did not claim the body.

Shah described the incident as “tragic and heart-wrenching,” assuring that the department would handle burial arrangements if needed. A letter sent to DIG East emphasized that Humaira was not unclaimed, with the Culture Department ready to take responsibility.

According to SSP South Mahzur Ali, the body has now been handed over to the family, and police investigations into Humaira Asghar’s mysterious death are ongoing. The actress’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, with the back of her head and knees severely deteriorated, complicating initial assessments. Police are awaiting the final postmortem report to determine the cause of death but have cautioned against premature conclusions.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Humaira last used social media in September 2024, and her electricity was disconnected in October due to unpaid bills. Neighbors reported seeing her for the last time in September 2024. Police recovered two mobile phones from her apartment, one of which showed that the last call was made in September 2024, coinciding with her final recorded podcast video.

These findings have provided critical leads, but the investigation remains open as police meticulously analyze evidence collected from various angles at the scene.
