NBP Hails Pakistan Hockey Team’s FIH Success

The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Pakistan national hockey team for qualifying for the final of the FIH Nations Cup. This achievement stands as a significant milestone marking the revival of hockey in Pakistan. The national team secured their place in the final after a thrilling 3-2 victory over France in a penalty shootout , which remains a highlight in the FIH calendar.

Since establishing its hockey team in 1966 and formalizing its Sports Department in 1974, NBP has played a pivotal role in promoting the national sport. NBP players have significantly contributed to Pakistan’s successes in major international competitions, including the Olympics, World Cup, Champions Trophy, and Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

NBP takes pride in the exceptional contributions of its players and officials, who played a decisive role in the national team’s success in this tournament. Team captain Ammad Shakeel Butt, who holds the Presidential Sitara-e-Imtiaz award, and player Junaid Manzoor delivered outstanding performances on the field. The expertise and guidance of Head Coach Tahir Zaman, Assistant Coaches Asif Ahmed Khan and Zeeshan Ashraf, and Goalkeeping Coach Mazhar Abbas—all integral to the NBP hockey program—proved crucial in the team’s impressive performance.

To celebrate this achievement, NBP organized a ceremony at its head office, where the chief guest, NBP President and CEO Rehmat Ali Hasnie, honored the players with commemorative shields for their remarkable performance. Senior management representatives were also present to celebrate the success of the bank and the nation. The NBP hockey players expressed gratitude to the CEO and management for providing a supportive environment for representing Pakistan on the global stage, noting that this encouragement will aid their professional growth.

Rehmat Ali Hasnie expressed his delight at the national team’s remarkable success, stating, “The Green Shirts’ outstanding performance is not just a victory but the beginning of a new golden era for Pakistani hockey. Our players and coaching staff have reignited passion for the sport across the nation by showcasing their skills on the global stage. NBP remains committed to the development of the national sport.
