The Sindh government is set to revolutionize Karachi’s public transportation system with the introduction of a large fleet of Electric Vehicles (EV) and hybrid buses in the current fiscal year. Senior Minister for Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, revealed that within the next few months, double-decker buses, along with additional buses, will be functioning on Karachi’s roads.
The decision came following a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, chaired by Sharjeel Inam Memon. Secretary Transport Asad Zaman, Managing Director of Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kamal Dayo, CEO of TransKarachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, Yellow Line BRT Project Director Zameer Abbasi, and project consultants and contractors were among the attendees, and reviewed the progress of ongoing transport initiatives.
The meeting paid crucial attention to the current status and advancements of the Red Line and Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects in a detailed review. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon was briefed on the updates of both initiatives. Officials confirmed that the Red Line BRT project is progressing as scheduled, while construction activities on various packages of the Yellow Line project have been expedited.
Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that both the Red Line and Yellow Line BRT projects will prove to be a revolutionary change for the citizens of Karachi. He stated that the primary objective of these BRT projects is to provide citizens with quality, safe, and affordable transportation.
Highlighting the vision of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Sindh government is taking all possible measures to provide facilities to its citizens. Memon reiterated the government’s commitment to providing world-class travel facilities to Karachi’s residents.
“We want the people of Karachi to have access to international-standard transportation services, and this is the manifesto of service of the Pakistan Peoples Party,” added Sharjeel Inam Memon.
