Last night, the weather took a rather dramatic turn as it drenched the streets of Karachi in the first monsoon rain of the season, a pleasant change in contrast to the heat and humidity of the prior days. The drizzles that swiftly morphed into heavy downpours were accompanied by lightning and thunder, taking over areas like Bahria Town, Gadap, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Gulshan-e-Memaar, Super Highway, and surrounding localities.
This pleasant mood change for the weather was soon adopted throughout the metropolis, including Gulistan-e-Johar, Scheme 33, University Road, Saadi Town, Federal B Area, Tariq Road, PECHS, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Defence, Clifton, Kala Pul, Gizri Line, Jamshed Road, Malir, North Karachi, New Karachi, and Surjani, where it was characterized by light showers to heavy downpours.
According to the Meteorological Department, the first monsoon spell is expected to continue until June 29, with intermittent rain and thunderstorms forecast during this period. The department has also warned of potential urban flooding due to heavy rainfall expected on Saturday and Sunday.
