Mass Jailbreak: Over 120 Inmates Recaptured

Over 120 escaped inmates of Malir District Jail have been re-arrested or have surrendered themselves to the authorities. The mass jailbreak happened subsequent to the chaos caused by a series of earthquake tremors in the city late at night. According to officials, several prisoners were even brought back to the jail by their own relatives. But 94 inmates are still on the run, and a search operation is underway to apprehend them.

Malir Jail’s security has been on high alert since the breakout. Security around the jail perimeter has been greatly increased, and Frontier Corps (FC) and Rangers personnel have been stationed at the main gate. In an effort to secure the return of absconders, the restriction on inmate visits that was put in place following the incident was lifted last night.

Police have opened a thorough investigation into the jailbreak and have filed a case at Shah Latif Town Police Station. According to investigative sources, during the incident, some rioting prisoners snatched weapons from security personnel and fired indiscriminately before succeeding in their escape.

Two sub-machine guns (SMGs) have also been reported missing from the jail, and efforts are underway to recover them. The investigation is prioritizing how the inmates were able to gain access to the weapons and whether internal facilitation played a role in this significant security breach.

Further investigation is underway, and more arrests are expected in the coming days as authorities work to fully account for all escapees and address systemic security lapses.
